Accommodation

As part of our research we have visited and stayed in a large range of different types of accommodation. For those organising their own groups or doing the self-drive option, we can make selections to suit your preferred accommodation style and budget (see booking enquiries and questionnaire).

For our scheduled tours, we use a number of criteria when selecting accommodation. In the first instance, we check it has a 4-star or greater rating; this provides independent quality assurance for our guests. As we will also be staying at the accommodation, it has to meet our own standards and we have to enjoy staying there. Some more specific things we look at include:

  • Location;
  • Friendliness of operators/staff;
  • Ambience of building and surroundings;
  • Room to relax;
  • Storage and drying facilities.

Generally, we avoid larger hotels as we tend to find they do not satisfy our criteria very well and usually do not represent value for money.

In some instances, for part of our tours, we select apartments or villas which accommodate more than two people. In all cases, a couple will have their own bathroom, but may be sharing a living area (lounge/kitchen/dining/patio) with others on the tour. We find this tends to work well as it adds to the social side of the tour and provides a much greater degree of space and facilities than you get with a typical hotel room.

If for any reason someone did not wish to share with others, we can accommodate their request; in some instances there may be a surcharge.
